The Weekend

Well, I was busy Saturday and tuckered out on Sunday...

I popped a 800mg ibuprofen on Saturday morning - probably why I felt okay for most of the day. We met the Troop (10 boys showed up) over at Lord of Grace Church (they're our Chartered Organization). Anyway, I spent a couple of hours on the cycling merit badge and I'm hoping it sank in to the boys. I'm not sure about the perimeter riding with these guys. Most of them have "street" bikes - single speed ones with seats that make my butt hurt just looking at them. They may make 10 miles, but 15, 25, & 50 - no way. A few of the boys have good bikes that would make longer journeys. I'll have to see who's game for the El Tour in November. My friend Larry (who's done the El Tour de Tucson for the past few years and is now doing Marathons - he's 52, by the way) said he'd love to help train the boys - I think he just wants to see me out riding and healthy.

So... back to the story... After the cycling work, we moved on to Aviation where our resident expert - we'll call him Mr. M - taught the boys about aviation. Mr. M. is a retired Naval Aviator. From LOG, we went to the Marana airport and a gentleman who had his own plane was gracious enough to let the boys check it out and the listened to him talk about how to do a pre-flight check. A gal, Jennifer, who is the Asst. Airport Manager, talked about the airport and how it's changed over the years and how it is planned to be bigger in the near future. Standing out in the sun near the plane for over an hour wasn't the best idea, but it was interesting to listen to Mr. Harris talk to the boys - he was great with them. Our little Miss Jennifer was interesting too - a bachelor's degree from Arizona State in Aviation Management Technology - I had no idea ASU had a degree like that. She actually wanted to be a pilot since she was 11 years old! Wow! She actually held on to those desires through high school! Not many people do that. She was pretty impressive - she also soloed on Saturday (something I wish I would have stuck with when I was in high school - flying lessons).

Anyway, we finished up around 3:30 and headed home. I was beat. The sun got me.

I had a restless night Saturday. Didn't sleep well. The reason I know is that when I woke up in the morning, my underwear drawer was pulled out and all messy - like someone was looking for something, in their sleep! Sunday I finally took it easy and just loafed around the house. I really didn't do much except realize that my memory was messed up and that the anesthesia was causing some minor problems.

Monday, today, I worked from home. I'll probably do that most of this week. I really don't think I could handle that drive down I-10 through what I call "The Gauntlet." It's the construction zone. Wanna take a look at live traffic (open in a new window)? Check out what I have to deal with for nearly 10 miles. Yeah, I don't want to deal with that right now. I think being in the office would wipe me out anyway. Today, after work (I did 10 hours), I was beat. I'm really tired after just sitting. And that's another thing - sitting is causing some discomfort by pinching the surgery area. When I try to stretch out on the chair, my butt aches and then my back too from having a poor posture. What fun...

No Scouts for Iain tonight. He's behind on a couple of school projects - one due tomorrow and one due on Wednesday. He's already learned how to procrastinate. Debs and I are trying to teach him how to not be like we were in college & high school. To actually get the project completed as quickly as possible and then goof off.

My friend from Scouting, Mr. M, invited Iain and I to go bass fishing over the Memorial Day weekend with some other guys & their boys. It's in a primitive area of the State on the Apache Reservation - San Carlos, I think. Black River fishing... sounds too good to pass up.
